Censuring or obliterating information

Censorship_button_blackAs reported in IPOLITICS, Government has buried in the Omnibus 2015 Budget Bill a clause exempting all long gun registry date from the Canada’s Access to Information Act and Privacy Act (ATIP). This makes the amendment retroactive and will be used to block access to these records to any ATIP users and future generations of social and political scientists, historians or archivists who might want to take a detached academic view of the $1B project and draw appropriate conclusions.  Effectively they are censoring the past erasing any traces of this important and most significant aspect of public policy.
